Worth
the Effort
A
hundred years ago ice cream was a rare treat. With no supermarket
freezers stocked with endless cartons, most ice cream was homemade in
a hand-cranked freezer. The process involved time, planning and
effort. For those who savored the end product, it was worthwhile.
Making homemade ice cream can be compared to our Bible reading and
prayer. How sweet are thy words
unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! the psalmist
declares in Psalm 119:103. But it is rare that these nourishing
encounters with God “just happen.” Carving time out of our rushed
schedules is a discipline that involves planning and effort. But in
these worthwhile, wonderful moments we can savor the goodness of God.
